I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM, WE ALL SCREAM FOR...ICE CREAM!

Summer’s in full swing and the temperature is spiking, which means that at any given moment I’m daydreaming about one of the following things: iced coffee, a slightly larger iced coffee, or ice cream. Although National Iced Coffee Day has (unfortunately) passed, National Ice Cream Day is coming up fast on July 18th. In fact, there’s an excuse to celebrate ice cream for the whole month - July is National Ice Cream Month.

Ice Cream Month was put in place in 1984, with the third Sunday of the month specially designated as National Ice Cream Day. The popularity of this icy treat has only continued to grow over the decades. According to the International Dairy Foods Association, U.S. ice cream makers produced over a billion gallons of ice cream in 2021 alone!

Celebrating National Ice Cream Day Locally

The ice cream freezer at the farm store is nestled in the corner and packed with pints from Walpole Creamery, which is located less than 2 hours from our front door. If that’s not local enough, Walpole sources their raw milk from Crescent Farm, just 3 miles away from the creamery itself.

What sets Walpole Creamery apart is the fact that they make all their ice cream from scratch instead of using a mass-produced base mix. Whenever possible, they also source their mix-ins locally. Flavors include everything from Maple Walnut to Mint Chip, Sweet Cream, and Fijan Ginger.

Dairy-Free Deliciousness

If you don’t eat dairy, one of my favorite treats in the ice cream freezer just so happens to be dairy free. Blue Moon Sorbet’s products are made in Vermont and are unbelievably refreshing on hot, humid days. Their ingredient list is super minimal, which is something I always prioritize when I’m shopping. (As an example, my favorite flavor is Peach Melba and has just four ingredients: Pure Fruit Puree (Peach and Raspberry), Water, Pure Cane Sugar, Lemon Juice.)

Cool Down at the Farm

What we lack in air conditioning we make up for in cool breezes, shady seating, and stunning views (have you seen the wildflower meadow yet??). If you’re looking for something to do on a quiet afternoon, swing by and say hi!
