Why Buy a Half Cow?

Save Money
This is the best price per pound you’ll get on our beef. Buying retail adds up quickly, but buying a half lets you stock your freezer at a far better value.

Use the Whole Animal
You receive everything: premium steaks, roasts, ground beef, bones, organs and fat for tallow rendering. Nothing is wasted and everything has purpose. It is the most respectful, nose-to-tail way to purchase meat.

Get Exactly What You Want
When you buy a half beef, you and I walk through the cut list together. I help you decide what you love, what you may not need, and how you want everything packaged.

Don’t let something like the cut-list intimidate you! We make sure to guide you through the process so you feel confident and taken care of.

Support Your Local Farmer
Your deposit helps cover the cost of raising and processing the animal including feed, pasture, time and skilled labor. When you buy a half cow, you are directly supporting our farm, our family and regenerative agriculture here in Newfields.

Buying a half beef is an investment, but one that pays you back every time you open your freezer and pull out a cut you trust completely.

How It Works

Reserving a half cow from Vernon Family Farm is simple, and we guide you through every step. Once you place your deposit—either through our website or at the farm store—you’ve secured your share of high-quality, locally raised beef. Because we raise our animals with care, we process only a limited number at a time, so early reservations are key.

After your reservation is confirmed, we’ll reach out to discuss your custom cut sheet. This is your chance to tailor the order to your preferences—whether you love thick-cut ribeyes, prefer more ground beef, or want to make the most of organ meats and bones for broth. If you're new to buying in bulk, don’t worry—we’ll walk you through the options to ensure you get exactly what works for your family.

Once processing is complete, your beef will be vacuum-sealed, USDA-certified, and frozen to preserve freshness. With proper storage in a deep freezer, your investment will last well over a year, providing you with delicious, farm-raised beef whenever you need it. Plan for about six cubic feet of freezer space—most small chest or upright freezers will do the job.

When your order is ready, we’ll notify you for pickup. The remaining balance is due at that time, and if you can pay in cash at the store, it’s much appreciated. By reserving in advance, you’re not just filling your freezer—you’re directly supporting our farm’s sustainability, helping us cover the upfront costs of raising and processing high-quality beef.

If we sell out of our own beef, we may source from other trusted local farms to ensure you still get the best quality meat.

Availability is always limited, so don’t wait—reserve your half beef today and enjoy the benefits of knowing exactly where your food comes from!
